The fire in Killarney National Park is one of the worst in almost 40 years.
That's according to the Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Cllr Patrick O'Connor Scarteen.
Fire services have been battling the blaze in Muckross since midnight last night, and are now receiving Air Support from the Defence Forces.
The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, along with the National Parks and Wildlife Service, are asking members of the public to avoid the following areas until further notice: Gortderraree, Derrycunnihy, Gallavally,Cahernaduv, Gearhameen, Doogary, Eagles nest & The Five mile.
People are also being advised to exercise caution if travelling on the N71, as there may be traffic congestion in the Five Mile bridge area, while there may be reduced visibility in the area due to smoke.
Cllr Connor Scarteen says it's very sad to see.
