North Kerry communities have been divided due to the intensity of wind farm developments in the area.
That’s according to Fine Gael councillor Aoife Thornton.
In the County Development plan, the council made the decision to omit North Kerry from being considered for any future wind farm development.
The Office of the Planning Regulator (OPR) said this policy has the potential to significantly and unreasonably limit wind energy development.
Cllr Thornton rejects the OPR's comments and says proportionality has to be considered; Kerry has the largest output in the country while also being at the forefront in Europe.
Cllr Thornton says while she acknowledges there’s determining factors, she thinks the OPR isn’t being tough enough on counties who don’t have as much of an output:
