The family of Robert Mitchum has given their support to a campaign to have a statue of the late actor erected in Dingle.

The idea is the brain child of Maurice Colgan, who lives in Dublin and came to west Kerry after seeing Ryan’s Daughter.

Mr Colgan succeeded in getting a statue of Elvis erected in his birthplace in Mississippi and feels a monument honouring Robert Mitchum’s work on Ryan’s Daughter would be a tourism magnet.

Christopher Mitchum, Robert’s son, contacted Radio Kerry to wholeheartedly endorse the campaign and Maurice Colgan hopes it will now become a reality:
