The Tralee community testing centre has been located at IT Tralee since March, following a decision by the ETB to make the site available to the HSE. For operational reasons, the centre has now relocated to the grounds of Ballymullen Barracks. This test centre has been a busy centre, staff assigned to the test centre have tested members of the public who have been referred by their GP and have supported mass testing of residents and staff from residential care facilities across Kerry. Head of Primary Care with Cork Kerry Community Healthcare, Teresa O’Donovan said: “We would like to thank the ETB for their support in providing IT Tralee as a venue at very short notice. Their support has been invaluable over recent months and assisted us as we rapidly increased the number of tests being carried out and expanded our testing capacity.” Ms O’Donovan also paid tribute to the staff working at all four Cork Kerry Community Healthcare Covid-19 test centres across Cork and Kerry. “We’re very proud of the work of the staff at all four of our test centres across Cork and Kerry. The main Covid-19 testing centre in Kerry cost the State over €730,000 in the second half of last year.

The centre, which had been operated from Ballymullen Barracks, was moved to the former Borg Warner plant in Monavalley in April.

Testing at centres was scaled back last month.

The information was provided to Radio Kerry under the Freedom of Information Act.

The Covid-19 test centre was moved to BorgWarner in order to make space at Ballymullen Barracks for Ukrainian refugees.

€660,000 was spent on staff, such as people taking swabs and administrators.

Traffic management, which was operated by the Defence Forces, cost almost €14,800 (€14,789.49) between August 1st and December 31st of last year.

Equipment at the facility set the State back by €13,180 while a similar amount was spent on cleaning at €13,134.

Over €17,600 was spent on catering and transport while a bill for couriers totted up to a total of €6,273.

Almost €5,000 (€4,964.53) was spent on utilities and just over €2,500 was used (€2,537.36) for costs associated with office supplies.
