€500,000 will be invested in promoting the Reeks District in Mid Kerry by 2024, under a new three-year marketing plan.
Local business owners, including Kerry senior football manager Peter Keane, have come together to help fund a marketing and promotional plan to boost tourism and economic development in the region.
The Reeks District stretches from Inch Beach to Glenbeigh, and includes Carrauntoohil, the highest mountain in Ireland.
The investment will come from funds raised by the 20-plus member group, as well as subscriptions from members of the Reeks District not-for-profit community group.
Funds will be used for activities that promote the district on domestic and international markets, as well as sustainably increasing visitor numbers.
The Reeks District group says marketing of visits during the ‘shoulder season’, which is the time between the peak tourist season and the off-season, will be one particular focus of the campaigns.
Chair of the Reeks District, Jens Bachem, has thanked the business owners and says the group looks forward to working with them, as well as Kerry County Council, the South Kerry Development Partnership and other groups.
Kerry senior football manager Peter Keane says he looks forward to seeing the Reeks District prosper as we battle back from the COVID crisis.
Chief Executive of Kerry County Council, Moira Murrell, says the marketing plan will complement the county plans and position the region at the forefront of activity and outdoor tourism once domestic and international travel resumes.
