A further half a million euro has been allocated for repairs and improvement works on non-public roads in rural communities in Kerry.
The announcement was made today by the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys.
Minister Humphreys today announced that over €497,000 has been allocated for upgrade works on rural roads and laneways in Kerry.
In May almost €690,000 was provided for work on Kerry’s non-public roads which brings the total investment this year under the Local Improvement Scheme to €1,187,000.
The scheme is designed to support the continued improvement of non-public roads in rural communities and improves access to rural homes and farms, as well as outdoor amenities such as lakes, rivers, mountains and beaches.
Kerry TD and the Deputy Government Chief Whip, Brendan Griffin described today’s announcement as a great boost for all in Kerry.
Deputy Griffin said the county allocations are based on the level of works that each local authority indicated they could complete before the end of the year.
Minister Humphreys said she was delighted to secure a further €10.5m nationally for the scheme which is the highest annual allocation since LIS was re-introduced.
