Over €40,000 has been spent on Skellig Michael this year so far by the OPW.
Despite the Office of Public Works confirming last week that the island will remain closed for this year, costs were incurred for maintenance and preparation of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It has cost €42,240 so far to maintain and prepare Skellig Michael for the 2020 season.
The majority of this cost - nearly €39,000 - was for the provision of services: €16,746 was spent on engineering consultancy, €13,700 on environmental consultancy, and a further €7,000 on miscellaneous consultancy fees.
Advertising cost over €880, first aid services cost €216 and equipment maintenance costs were nearly €330.
Supplies for the island totalled €1,350.
12 contractors or suppliers were paid for work or products by the OPW up to the middle of July.
