€1.2 million has been allocated to Kerry to adapt and extend homes for older people and those with a disability.
The funding has been made available through the Disabled Persons Grant Scheme and Improvement Works in Lieu of the Social Housing Scheme.
The Government will provide 90% of the funding with the remainder, almost €127,000, being covered by Kerry County Council.
Works covered include installing grab rails, ramps, wet rooms, downstairs bathrooms and in cases of overcrowding, extensions to properties.
The announcement has been welcomed by Education Minister and Kerry Fianna Fáil TD, Norma Foley and Kerry Fine Gael TD Brendan Griffin.
