Distance marker buoys have been placed at a Castlegregory beach to encourage more people to get into the water and go for a swim.
Healthy Ireland Swim distance marker buoys have been placed at 100 metre intervals at Sandy Bay in Castlegregory, to create a 1200 metre sea swimming circuit.
Sandy Bay beach is a popular and safe swimming destination, with trained lifeguards on duty during the summer months.
The marker buoy initiative was launched this week by Chief Officer of Cork Kerry Community Healthcare, Michael Fitzgerald, with the aim of encouraging physical activity and wellbeing.
Local lifeguards and volunteers assisted with the positioning of the buoys, while the Irish Water Safety Association and Kerry County Council worked together to develop additional signage on the beach.
