The Diocese of Kerry says first communion and confirmation ceremonies planned from July 5th should not proceed following the Government announcement yesterday.
Tánaiste Leo Varadkar said yesterday that these ceremonies were 'off' when asked about them at a press conference.
Guests at weddings can increase to 50 after July 5th.
This afternoon, a government spokesperson confirmed that communions, confirmations, and baptisms are suspended following the Tánaiste's comments yesterday.
A government spokesperson says they are all postponed following NPHET advice over the Delta variant and the official government website will be updated soon on this.
Meanwhile a parish priest in Kerry has refused to comment on whether his parish will press ahead with ceremonies planned over the next few days.
The Diocese of Kerry's Covid Support Team said following the Government announcement yesterday concerning COVID-19 restrictions, the planned resumption of first communion and confirmation ceremonies from July 5th should not proceed.
The diocese was commenting before the clarification by the government spokesperson this afternoon.
It says further clarification is to issue from the Department of the Taoiseach and that it will issue a further update once this clarification is received.
The Catholic parish of Ballymacelligott had been due to hold a confirmation ceremony tomorrow and first communion at the weekend - before July 5th, the date from which the diocese says such events should not proceed.
Parish priest of Ballymacelligott, Fr Gearóid Walsh, said he would not be discussing the matter with anyone outside of the parish.
The Diocese of Kerry had no comment to make as to whether it's aware of possible plans in Ballymacelligott parish to proceed with the ceremonies.
