A decision on whether or not the Rose of Tralee festival will go ahead this year, will be made in March.
CEO Anthony O'Gara says a small-scale festival, held later in autumn, is another option which organisers are looking at.
For the first time in its 60-year history, the Rose of Tralee did not go ahead in 2020 because of the global pandemic.
However, with more than seven months to go before the festival is due to take place, Anthony O'Gara says there's still a chance that it might happen in the autumn.
Organisers will only proceed with plans if it's safe to do so, and at present, he says the corona virus situation in Ireland is too unpredictable to make a call.
Normally, Rose contestants are chosen at centres around the world in March and April.
But Mr O'Gara says they could hold off until May, if there was a chance it was safe to proceed with the festival in the autumn.
A scaled-down festival in October is another possible option.
He says he's in constant contact with the various centres and with RTE, and will make a definite decision on whether or not to go ahead with the event in the next six weeks.
