A multi-million-euro redevelopment of Dingle Distillery is expected to create up to 50 jobs if it gets the green light.
Kerry County Council planners are currently examining an application for the development with a decision due by June 13th.
The Dingle Distillery opened its doors in 2012 and produces whiskey, vodka and gin; it recently launched its first core whiskey; Dingle Single Malt and aims to produce 100,000 bottles by 2023.
The distillery at the old mill, Milltown has plans for a major redevelopment, which could grow the current workforce of 18 by 50 positions across packaging and in the enhanced touring and retail facilities for visitors.
The planning application includes demolishing a small section of the existing distillery and the construction of over 1,700 square metres of additional floor area.
This will include a new circular, three-storey tower with reception, visitor centre, bar and viewing balcony and extended production and storage facilities.
The building will include external cladding of slate and natural stone.
Managing director at Dingle Distillery, Elliot Hughes, says the development will incorporate an event space, which will be available for concerts, local festivals and private hire.
Mr Hughes says the distillery will support craftspeople on the Dingle Peninsula by offering their produce for sale.
He said they are confident in securing finance for the multi-million-euro project, adding that the distillery and local area will benefit from a symbiotic relationship.
