Damage caused to coaches by hedges along the Ring of Kerry road will put people off travelling the route.
That's the view of Independent councillor Dan McCarthy.
A deputation of Ring of Kerry road users and residents was heard at the recent Kenmare Municipal District meeting, where they raised the issue of protruding hedges along the route.
One member of the deputation, John Mulvihill, said the council should be praised for the condition of the road.
However, he said hedges that are not properly cut back cause problems for coaches.
Independent councillor Johnny Healy-Rae said this is particularly bad in some sections rather than the whole road, but breaking a mirror won't entice people back.
Cllr Dan McCarthy agreed with this, adding the cost of the damage by branches will get to a point where people won't want to travel the route.
Cllr McCarthy said while it might not make him any friends in the Green Party, these branches and hedges should be cut back.
Padraig Teahan, engineer with Kerry County Council, replied that the council feels it's underfunded for hedge cutting on the Ring of Kerry, and will go back to Transport Infrastructure Ireland to voice these concerns.
