The Courts Service will meet the local authority this week to discuss options for a new courthouse in Tralee.
The Courts Service says it's pro-actively seeking to progress the provision of new and world class court facilities in the town.
The Courts Service says it's well aware the facilities at the courthouse on Ashe Street are not adequate for the 21st century.
It says that last month its buildings committee agreed the refurbishment of the existing courthouse would not provide the facilities required to deliver modern courts services to the people of Kerry.
Additionally, it would be too expensive.
The Courts Service CEO is due to meet with Kerry County Council CEO Moira Murrell later this week to establish which sites, including the Island of Geese site, might be available in Tralee to build a new courthouse.
It had already written to the council this month seeking the Island of Geese site.
It adds the government is seeking submissions to the new National Development Plan, and the Courts Service is anxious to align its plans to build new court facilities in Tralee through this plan.
