A Kerry councillor says tourists cannot be blamed for littering in the county.
Fine Gael councillor Seamus Cosaí Fitzgerald made the claim during the Castleisland and Corca Dhuibhne Municipal District meeting, when littering issues were being discussed.
Councillor Seamus Cosaí Fitzgerald says during the early stages of the pandemic last year, when no tourists were travelling the county, the amount of littering in Dingle increased.
He says this proves that, despite thinking to the contrary, it's local people who're doing the majority of littering.
The council's John Breen agreed, saying those from outside the county are not responsible for littering in the county, saying it's down to Kerry people.
He's again urging people to adopt the initiative Leave No Trace, which is encouraging people enjoying amenities in the county to bring their waste home with them and dispose of it correctly.
Mr Breen says council staff now have the power to carry out inspections and ask households to prove they dispose of waste in the council's facilities or with a registered refuse collector.
