A councillor is seeking a detailed report from Irish Water on its investment plans for Kerry for the coming years.
The call comes as a major water supply has been interrupted for the second time in five days.
Kerry County Councillor Michael Cahill said sewerage schemes and the waterpipe network in the county are at crisis levels.
The Fianna Fáil councillor called on Kerry County Council to seek a detailed report from Irish Water on its investment programme for Kerry up to 2028.
He said we need to know where development may be constrained due to water or wastewater infrastructural deficiencies.
Cllr Cahill said, given the continuing rise in population and the return of our tourism season, efficient sewerage systems must be a top priority.
He said while it was positive that a new wastewater treatment plant is to be provided in Fenit and the Knightstown plant is to be upgraded, further progress must be achieved if we are to put an end to these third world facilities.
Meanwhile, households and businesses have been left without water again today following a second break on the Central Regional Water Supply Scheme in five days.
Crews are working to repair the trunk main with supply expected to be restored this evening.
