A councillor says many parts of Kerry are supported in having well-maintained walkways, so it’s only fair that Castleisland receives help too.
That’s according to Fine Gael councillor Bobby O’Connell, who was speaking after the council said it’s to consider taking over the river walk in the town.
Councillor Bobby O’Connell had requested Kerry County Council take over the Castleisland River Walk, saying it’s an important amenity for the area.
He says he fears it could fall into disrepair, despite the huge work of local groups to maintain it, partly due to resources available and the walkway’s size.
The local authority says its MD team will develop a plan for the consideration of taking over the River Walk.
The plan will look at the current condition of the walk, works which may be required, the funding of works and the longer-term costs of maintaining the local amenity.
Councillor O’Connell says many areas in Kerry are supported by the local authority in having well-maintained and accessible walkways, so it’s only right that Castleisland is treated no differently.
