A Kerry councillor says the family of a young girl killed in a road accident can count on the local community for support.
11-year-old Aoibheann Duffy who was on a bike was seriously injured following a collision involving a van on the Tralee to Abbeydorney road around 7.30 last evening.
She was later pronounced dead in University Hospital Kerry.
The driver of the van, a man in his 50s, was taken to hospital to be treated for injuries.
An active, outgoing, fun-loving girl who was always smiling.
That's how Principal of Ardfert National School, Betty Stack, says Aoibheann Duffy will be remembered.
The 11-year-old was a fifth-class pupil in the school where today teachers and psychologists from the National Educational Psychological Service were offering support to help students cope with the tragedy.
Local Sinn Féin Cllr Deirdre Ferris says her thoughts and sympathies are with everyone impacted by the tragedy:
Gardaí are continuing their investigation into the incident and have appealed for any witnesses to contact them.
Anyone with any information including dash cam footage is asked to contact Tralee Garda Station on (066) 71 02 300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
