A county councillor is asking if there's a need to control the development of further restaurants and cafes in Killarney.
Independent Alliance councillor Michael Gleeson brought a motion to the recent monthly meeting of the Killarney Municipal District.
He asked the council to determine if there is need to ensure a reasonable and sustainable level of restaurants and cafes in the town.
Councillor Gleeson says, while not wanting to deter new developments, long-established businesses, which are often family-run, should have fair and reasonable priority and protection.
Kerry County Council says one of its aims is to retain the vitality and viability of the town centre, which requires a balanced mix of services and uses.
