Kerry County Council says it won't be removing sand by night in order to improve road widths.
This followed a request by Fianna Fáil councillor Michael O'Shea, who was speaking about road widening at the entrance to Magherabeg and Kilshannig near the Maharees.
He said this issue has been ongoing for the past 27 years and, despite many people visiting the Maharees every year, not even a shovel of sand has been moved to improve road safety at this location.
Councillor O'Shea suggested the council move the sand by night and ask questions later.
In response, the council said, while the road safety issue is a valid point, it must lead by example in such an ecologically-sensitive area and it won't be removing sand under the cover of darkness.
