Kerry County Council says it has yet to receive a planning application for the county's first crematorium.
It follows a notice being erected in the Gneeveguilla area in recent days.
The notice was erected by Robert Walker, Director of Funeral Gardens of England (Ireland) on Saturday (May 1st).
It says permission is being sought to build a crematorium at the existing brown field site at Reanasup, Gneeveguilla, Rathmore.
The notice says the development would include the demolition of an existing house, outbuildings and yard and the removal of a ditch to create an entrance.
It also includes parking and a new waste water treatment system.
The notice says a Natura Impact Statement is to be submitted to Kerry County Council with the application.
A spokesperson for the local authority says the planning application has yet to be lodged with it.
Fianna Fáil Cllr Niall Kelleher says he is aware of the notice and is looking for clarification on it.
If the development goes ahead, it would be Kerry's first crematorium; currently, the closest facilities to Kerry are in Shannon and Ringaskiddy in Cork.
Radio Kerry has been unable to contact Mr Walker for comment.
