Kerry County Council says it has no involvement with a former direct provision centre in Cahersiveen.
At the Kenmare Municipal District meeting, councillors said the façade of the former Skellig Star Hotel in Cahersiveen has been renovated in recent weeks, leading to questions about the property's future use.
Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council and Fine Gael councillor Patrick Connor-Scarteen was asking the council to outline its involvement - if any - with the former direct provision centre.
He says the experience of the past six months has left a bad taste in the mouths of not just locals, but also the asylum seekers who were resident in the property.
Cathaoirleach Connor-Scarteen is calling on the council to write to the Department of Justice, asking if it's aware of future plans for the property.
Fianna Fáil councillor Michael Cahill says there's huge concern locally about the property, with reports of former prisoners or more asylum seekers being accommodated in the former hotel.
Fellow Fianna Fáil councillor Norma Moriarty says, despite many parties doing the right thing in the end to close the centre, there is a lack of trust between locals and government departments.
In response, Kerry County Council says it has no information whatsoever about the former hotel and it has never had any involvement in its use as a direct provision centre.
