Kerry County Council says it’s trying to help businesses operating outdoor dining as much as possible.
The local authority, which is assessing applications for outdoor dining furniture, was responding to a complaint from a Kenmare restaurant owner, who says the council has been too restrictive on granting outdoor dining space outside his premises.
Klaas Spijker of Boka Restaurant says the front of his business is 10 metres wide, but he’s only permitted to have three tables, catering for six people.
The council says, while it has facilitated businesses as much as it can, consideration must also be given to other footpath users.
However, Mr Spijker, who’s seeking to have two additional tables, says he’s disappointed with the council’s stance.
