The CEO of Kerry County Council is seeking a 15% increase in the Local Property Tax for 2022.
Chief Executive of the council, Moira Murrell asked councillors to consider this increase at a pre-budget meeting this morning.
She says this increase would represent a €2.1 million increase on income for Kerry County Council.
Under legislation, councillors have the power annually to vary the base LPT rate for the following year by +/-15% or leave the rate unchanged.
This proposed 15% increase would represent an increase of 7.5% on this year's rate.
Ms Murrell says money will go towards a number of large-scale projects in all Municipal Districts.
She says the LPT is an essential mechanism for Kerry County Council to raise funds, adding other options, including income from car parking, was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Chief Executive told the meeting the rates waiver was critical for the council over the past year, given the challenges presented by the pandemic; she added continued Government support would be needed in the final quarter of this year.
No decision on the rate of the Local Property Tax was made at the pre-budget meeting.
Councillors will meet next Monday to determine the LPT rate for 2022.
