Coastal community groups in Kerry are among those calling for greater protection ahead of the expected increase in visitors this summer.
The Irish Examiner reports communities across the country have come together to form Coastal Life Collective, which is calling on local authorities to implement measures that would ease pressure on Ireland's coastlines.
According to reports, Maharees Conservation Association, Castlegregory, Ventry and Dún Sion, Banna Coast Care, Fenit Dunes Action Group, Derrynane, and Inch Development Association are the groups involved from Kerry.
Coastal Life Collective is calling for improved toilet facilities, temporary car parks and enforcement of by-laws at beaches, to prevent against illegal camping and fires.
The group also believe there should be better management of sand dunes, as well as signs to inform visitors of the local biodiversity and its importance.
