Eighty full time jobs could be created in Fenit if the port was used as an operation and maintenance base for offshore wind farms.
That’s according to head of communications and public affairs with Wind Energy Ireland, Justin Moran.
He says Arklow port, which is a similar size to Fenit, will be used as a base resulting in eighty jobs there.
Mr Moran says there are huge opportunities for Kerry and it could become a hub for renewable energy employment; ENERCON, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of wind turbines, is headquartered in Tralee and employs seventy people.
