The Cathaoirleach of Killarney Municipal District is totally rejecting a claim that pedestrianisation in parts of Killarney town was a factor in anti-social behaviour over the bank holiday.
The Town Centre Retail Action Group is calling for plans to pedestrianise Main Street in particular to the halted.
However, Cllr Brendan Cronin says the issue is Government policy allowing alcohol to be consumed on the streets.
He is calling for bars and restaurants to be reopened fully immediately as the current situation is a nightmare from a policing point of view:
Meanwhile, the Cathaoirleach of Killarney Municipal District, Cllr Brendan Cronin and the multi-agency co-ordination group have met with Killarney Garda Superintendent, Flor Murphy.
They were informed that Gardaí will be on standby this weekend should there be a repeat of scenes over the June Bank Holiday.
