The new Cathaoirleach of the Castleisland Corca Dhuibhne Municipal District supports the Milltown Bypass but says a full assessment is needed.
The €7 million road project was the subject of a recent webinar attended by over 250 people where the preferred 1.67-kilometre route was outlined.
Kerry County Council and Transport Infrastructure Ireland say the bypass will remove 60% of traffic travelling unnecessarily through Milltown but the need for the project and its impact has been questioned.
