A case of COVID-19 has been confirmed at a mid-Kerry school.

The school has published a letter it received from the Department of Public Health on its website.

This letter states that a confirmed case of COVID-19 at a mid-Kerry school has been notified to the Department of Public Health HSE-South, and a public health risk assessment has been undertaken.

The parents of any children deemed to be close contacts of the confirmed case have been contacted and advised accordingly.

If a child hasn’t been identified as a close contact, then he or she doesn’t need a COVID-19 test, and can continue to attend school.

If a child develops any symptoms suggestive of COVID-19, such as a cough, fever, or loss or change in sense of taste or smell, then the child shouldn’t attend school.

In that instance, parents are asked to contact their GP and restrict their child’s movements –the child should stay at home, and shouldn’t have visitors in the home.

The Department of Public Health HSE-South says it’s monitoring the school situation closely.

Cork Kerry Community Healthcare has told Radio Kerry News it’s not commenting on a confirmed case of COVID-19 linked to a school in Kerry.
