There are calls for a landfill in North Kerry to be reopened.
Fianna Fáil Councillor Fionnán Fitzgerald called on Kerry County Council to work to reopen the Muingnaminnane site, which closed in 2014.
He raised the issue at the Castleisland Corca Dhuibhne Municipal District meeting.
Cllr Fionnán Fitzgerald told the meeting that this facility provided a fantastic and affordable service for people disposing of household equipment, metal, plastics, paints and other items.
He believes if the site was reopened, and it was easier for people to dispose of their rubbish, that it might reduce the problem of illegal dumping around the county.
The EPA Licence for the operation of this site has ceased and Kerry County Council says it has no plans to reopen this facility; the council also outlined there are two privately operated civic amenity facilities in Tralee Town.
However, Kerry County Council confirmed it has been looking at options to provide such a facility in the North Kerry area, but says there is currently no source of funding available to develop such facilities.
Ger O’Brien from Kerry County Council told the meeting he believed if people are inclined to dump rubbish illegally, they will continue to do it even if there’s a civic amenity site nearby.
