The Tralee Municipal District should support tourism and hospitality businesses to develop and increase their own outdoor seating capacity.
That’s the view of Fianna Fáil councillor Mikey Sheehy.
He raised the issue at the recent Tralee Municipal District meeting.
Cllr Mikey Sheehy called for the Tralee MD to dedicate a specific person to liaise with businesses in a bid to support them to develop and increase their own outdoor seating capacity.
He says we now know this will be an outdoor summer, following on from recent comments made by Taoiseach Micheál Martin.
The Fianna Fáil councillor says promoting the outdoors in Kerry is an easy sell, and hopes we get our fair share of staycations in the county this season.
In response to his motion, Kerry County Council says it released details of the Outdoor Seating and Accessories for Tourism and Hospitality Business Scheme in mid-April.
This scheme provides a level of financial support to tourism and hospitality businesses in town centres, to purchase or upgrade equipment to provide additional outdoor seating.
Full details of this scheme are available on the Kerry County Council website.
