A Kerry councillor is calling for clarity on plans to develop a Chemotherapy Day Unit at University Hospital Kerry.

Fianna Fáil Tralee Cllr Mikey Sheehy raised the issue at the recent Kerry County Council meeting.

He asked the local authority to write to the Minister for Health to find out where the plans are for the unit.

Last October the General Manager of University Hospital Kerry, Fearghal Grimes said the HSE was looking at developing new chemotherapy day unit facilities at UHK.

Currently daycase chemotherapy and cancer services are provided five days a week in outpatient rooms in the Palliative Care Day Centre and in a 12-chair unit in the day ward of UHK.
