It has now emerged that both Kerry vaccination centres will be closed on Thursday of this week.
This morning, the HSE stated that the vaccination hub at the Killarney Sports and Leisure Centre would be closed for three days this week until Saturday, but Radio Kerry has learned that Tralee will also be closed on Thursday.
The HSE said the closure in Killarney is to allow hard-pressed staff some time off.
It is also to allow it to begin the scheduling the second doses of AstraZeneca currently due.
According to the organisation, the centre in Killarney is ahead of schedule and will resume the vaccination roll out on Saturday.
It has now emerged that the Tralee vaccination centre will be closed on Thursday of this week for similar reasons.
Meanwhile, Radio Kerry has learned a private contractor that provides security and other staff to the Killarney hub has laid off its workers for the three days and has cited the HSE vaccine supply as the issue in communication with its staff.
Radio Kerry has contacted the HSE for comment, but has not received a response.
Separately, it’s understood a number of people from Waterford were sent to Killarney for their vaccinations and the HSE is working on what it calls a glitch that has led to some people to be sent to centres far from where they live.
