The body of a woman who was found dead in Lixnaw this morning has been removed from the scene.
A semi-detached house in the Sli na Faiche estate has been sealed off and a Garda investigation is underway.
The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified and a post mortem is due to take place on the body at University Hospital Kerry later.
Garda forensic experts spent several hours at the property and have sealed two upstairs windows in plastic; a silver car was also removed from the driveway by Gardaí.
Gardaí are currently carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the estate as they try to piece together all of the circumstances surrounding the woman's death.
They say the results of the post mortem examination will direct the course of their investigation. Locals have spoken of their shock and sadness at the news, adding that the area is normally very quiet.
