5G mobile coverage has come to one of Kerry’s most remote areas.
Eir has announced it has successfully connected the Black Valley community with the highest capacity mobile network available, which also supports high-speed broadband.
The area did not get access to electricity until 1977, and Radio Kerry previously reported that some residents could not call emergency services because coverage there is so poor.
The operation to connect the Black Valley cost Eir over €600,000, which is roughly 20% of the company’s total investment on 5G in Kerry to date.
The 5G connection to the area will also now assist the Kerry Mountain Rescue Team, who can be tasked to the Black Valley to rescue climbers in distress.
