Almost 9,000 people in Kerry suffer from both asthma and hay fever.
That’s according to the Asthma Society of Ireland which says 80% of people in Ireland suffer from hay fever.
However, a survey by the organisation found that 30% of respondents have never sought advice on managing the allergy.
Dr Marcus Butler, a respiratory consultant and Medical Director at the Asthma Society of Ireland said the findings are concerning for the asthma population in Ireland.
Dr Butler said unmanaged hay fever or allergies can cause asthma symptoms to heighten and escalate into an asthma attack, which can be fatal.
He urged people with hay fever to speak with a healthcare professional to help manage their symptoms.
