The Cabinet has committed to making the Kerry-Dublin route a priority.

The Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan has confirmed his intention to seek a replacement to operate the PSO service on an emergency basis, subject to a maximum term of seven months.

The contract with Stobart Air was due to expire in February 2022.

The Department of Transport is examining the implications of Stobart Air’s announcement and the cancellation of the government-funded PSO routes.

Education Minister and Fianna Fáil TD for Kerry Norma Foley is welcoming Cabinet’s commitment to make the Kerry-Dublin route a priority.

She says Minister Ryan is seeking an expedited tendering process, which aims to have a replacement carrier in place by the middle to end of July.

Minister Foley says she’s confident a suitable resolution will be reached for the benefit of Kerry and the region.

Department officials will shortly launch a procurement process for a maximum of four years that will continue the service after any temporary contract has expired.
