70% of Kerry drivers taken to court for driving without a licence escape conviction.
That's according to new figures compiled by road safety group Parc, published in today's Irish Times.
The data covers court appearances, convictions and fines imposed for this offence, from January 2018 to July 2020.
Across the county, 1,032 people appeared in court for driving without a licence during the two and a half year period.
305 of these were convicted, while 234 fines were imposed.
Of the individual courts in Kerry, Kenmare and Killarney have the joint highest conviction rate at 36%.
33 appeared in court in Kenmare, with 12 convicted and 12 fines imposed.
In Killarney, 213 people appeared in court and 77 were convicted, while 55 fines handed out.
In Dingle, there were 31 court appearances and 10 people convicted, and 10 people were hit with fines.
Tralee's conviction rate for driving without a licence was 28%, with 148 convictions out of 522 court appearances, while 108 people were fined.
There were 177 court appearances in Listowel and 47 convictions, while 40 fines were imposed.
18 appeared in court and four people were convicted for this offence in Killorglin - four fines were handed out.
The lowest conviction rate in Kerry for driving without a licence was 18% in Cahersiveen, where 38 appeared in court and seven were convicted with five fines imposed.
