There was a 7% increase in crimes reported in Kerry last year.
That’s according to recorded crimes figures from the Central Statistics Office.
These figures from the CSO are based on 12 types of offences recorded in Kerry.
They are attempts/threats to murder, assaults, harassments, dangerous or negligent acts, kidnapping, robbery, extortion and hijacking, burglary, theft, fraud, deception, controlled drug offences, weapons and explosives offences, damage to property, public order, and offences against government, justice procedures, and organisation of crime.
They show that last year, 5,386 such crimes were recorded across Kerry; that marks a 7% increase on 2018, when 5,037 offences were logged.
Of the Kerry Division’s 25 Garda stations, these crimes were up at 14 Kerry Garda stations, including Killarney, Listowel, Tralee, and Dingle.
Barraduff had just one crime recorded last year, the same as 2018, while the remaining 10 Garda stations in Kerry reported that the number of these crimes were down.
This included Waterville, where the number went from 34 in 2018 to 19 last year; and Castlegregory where 25 incidents were logged last year, down from 48 the previous year.
