4,500 cyclists are currently making their way along the 42nd annual Ring of Kerry charity cycle today.
Bishop Ray Brown, the new cathaoirleach of Killarney Municiple District Maura Healy Rae, and paralympian Jordan Lee performed the ceremonial start.
The iconic 170km event, which starts and ends in Killarney, is Ireland’s largest one-day charity cycle.
PRO of the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle, Cathal Walsh says the first cyclists set out at 4 o'clock this morning:
The event is a huge voluntary effort with people stewarding the route and providing food and drinks to the participants.
Certain sections of the route will be closed to traffic, while other sections will remain open.
