Over 300 metres of problematic water mains in Listowel will be replaced in the coming weeks.
Irish Water, working with Kerry County Council, will undertake the work, following the replacement of over 850 metres of water mains in the town last year.
320 metres of water mains on Church Street in Listowel will be replaced to provide a more reliable water supply and tackle high levels of leakage.
The old, problematic pipes will be decommissioned in mid-May, with work expected to be completed in six weeks.
The works will take place on Church Street from the junction with Library Road to the junction of Church Street and Courthouse Road.
New connections will be laid from the public main to customers’ property boundaries, connecting to the customers’ water supply.
Any existing lead service connections on the public side will be replaced.
Traffic management will be in place and some short-term water shut offs may be required.
Elsewhere, Irish Water and Kerry County Council completed over 950 metres of new water mains at Kilfenora, Fenit last month.
Approximately 660 leaks have been replaced under the Find and Fix Leakage Reduction Programme to date in Kerry.
