Additional water tankers have been provided this evening, following a major water outage that has affected thousands of customers around the county.
Irish Water is working with Kerry County Council to restore water supply following a burst on the water main yesterday evening from Lough Guitane Water Treatment Plant to Sheheree Reservoir on the Central Regional Water Supply Scheme. The burst occurred on a section of water mains at Faugh, Muckross and was repaired by Kerry County Council crews in the early hours of this morning.
Water is currently being restored in reservoirs and water supply will begin to return to customers this evening, with some customers’ supplies returning tomorrow. The burst impacted water supply to up to 50,000 homes and businesses in Killarney, Tralee, Castleisland, Firies, Farranfore, Castlemaine, Ballymacelligott, Fenit and surrounding areas.

In Tralee at Mounthawk, O’Donnell’s Bar, Brandon Car Park, Manor Shopping Centre, St Brendan’s Church, Tralee Sports Complex, Munster Bar, Ballymullen, Clogher’s pump station near LIDL, Caheranne Strand Road.
At the Spa GAA and the Tankard in Kilfenora.
In Killarney at the Rock Road Car Park and at Fossa School.
In Firies/ Farranfore at Firies Church Yard.
In Ballymacelligott at the Church Yard Cloghers, at Cordal Graveyard, Barraduff Community Centre and at Abbeydorney GAA pitch.
Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tankers and to boil the water before consumption as a precautionary measure. Customers are also asked to follow social distancing when collecting water from tankers. Irish Water’s customer care helpline is open on 1800 278 278.
